HOW LONG HAVE YOU SUFFERED FROM BACK PAIN?
If you are one of the millions of Americans who suffer from lower back pain, you know how debilitating it can be. Burning, shooting nerve pains, and muscles in constant spasm make even the simplest movement an ordeal. Often, just finding a comfortable resting position is virtually impossible. Traditional treatment starts with medication and bed rest and ends with the prospect of surgery a painful, expensive, frightening experience. Treatments such as acupuncture, hot/cold therapy, massage, and other techniques may offer limited relief. Perhaps you have already undergone surgery, and still suffer periods of intense pain and frustration. The quality of your life is impaired precious time and money wasted and your back pain dilemma persists.
WHAT CAUSES LOW BACK PAIN?
The central nervous system includes the brain and the spinal cord, which is protected by the vertebrae of the spinal column. Between each of these vertebra, or bones, is a disc, a gelatinous substance covered with a fibrous outer layer, that functions as a shock absorber to protect the bones and surrounding nerves. Herniation, or bulging, of these discs is the most common cause of severe low back pain. Nearly 90% of these herniations occur in the two lowest levels of the lumbar spine, where stress forces can equal 2,000 to 3,000 pounds of pressure per square inch! Commonly discs dry out and degenerate over time or with injury, causing them to shatter or fragment, exerting pressure on surrounding nerves, often producing excruciating pain, which in turn tenses up surrounding muscle, causing spasms and even more pain.
THE SHEALY PAIN PROGRAM
The Shealy Pain Program has shown significant positive results in the treatment of low back pain. The Shealy Pain Program is delivered in accordance with the established protocol delivered at the Shealy Institute. Phase One of The Shealy Pain Program involves using The IDD System to help relieve pain quickly and effectively. This is followed by Phase Two early mobilization and strengthening. The protocol finishes with Phase Three education and prevention of further injury.
